Hi there,

Have just joined this forum and thought I'd post a short introductory
message.

My name is Martin and I'm an amateur luthier working down in Adelaide
Australia. My main area of interest is acoustics...classicals and steel
strings. Current work in progress is a fairly basic Torres style classical.

Hope to contribute to the forum if I can but will probably sit back and
watch for a bit before putting up some posts.

Cheers Martin

Martin,

G'Day and welcome aboard!

It's a bit like voting really, I'd say "post early and post often".

Hi Martin. Good name for a guitarmaker. Last week we had Mr. Torres work on here to admire. Just search for Torres and his work will pop up.

Okay, post some pics of what you are working on and welcome to the OLF, sometimes known as old luthier farts. Just use the green tree icons on the post screen to upload links to pics on the web or upload pics to the OLF.

Hi Martin,

Good to have a bit more DEEP southern influence here on the OLF.

A couple of things I have found since being directed here by the wise, aside from those not asked there are no stupid questions. The conceptual exchange here is brilliant, so do not be afraid to put your thoughts and ideas forward.

Having said that, I have spent some time in the archives, a lot of questions have already been answered, so do take your time to discover that resource as it really is great value.

So from one southerner to another, there are a great deal of very talented and clever people here, best of all, they are kind people and willing to share the gift.

Cheers

Kim

Welcome, Martin. More international perspective is always a good thing. Besides, you live in the future (several hours ahead of my time zone), so you can keep us informed about coming trends.

Hi Martin,

We met over at the ubeaut woodwork forums. This place is better, all guitars and no bird houses. Well, mostly no bird houses.

Welcome to the OLF!

Welcome Martin!

This forum can sure use another classical beginner! We need to balance out those who build with (ugh!) steel strings and speak this weird discriptive language like; small jumbo and large mandolin! Oximorons should be prohibited on this forum!

Oh, since you're upside down, does tht mean that the guitars are built backwards?

Welcome aboard!

Steve

I think I'd have a few copy right issues there. At present the guitar
building thing is just a hobby so havent really givent thought to a name
for my operation. A few of my guitars aquire names though..usually when
things arent going too well.

Hi there Paul, yes I remember you well. Of late there seem to be quite a
few amateur luthiers coming out of the woodwork on the ubeaut forum.

Hi Craig,

I was born and bred in Christchurch but have lived in Adelaide, Oz since
1986. Have only visited Dunedin twice in my life and both times it rained
non stop!!

Hi Steve,

Im currently using mainly the Spanish method to build my classicals so I
guess I do work backwards with the instrument top down on a
workboard. Appropriate for this part of the world I guess.

Cheers Martin
